The Creative Design Thinking Summer Camp For Kids & Teens is an academically designed experience aimed at developing creative reasoning, design thinking, visual literacy, and problem-solving abilities in kids and teens.

​

Participants will engage in 14 instructor-led sessions, combining conceptual understanding with studio-based projects. The curriculum is thoughtfully aligned with principles of child development psychology, supporting growth in design thinking, conceptual imagination, and innovation fluency.

Through the course of the program, kids and teens will:

• Build a structured understanding of the Design Thinking process, emphasizing empathy, ideation, prototyping, and reflection.
   

• Learn the Principles of Design and effective Visual Communication strategies.
   

• Gain early exposure to the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Visual Media.
   

• Strengthen their imaginative capacities through guided exercises in abstract, constructive, and applied imagination.
   

• Design and prototype their own products and toys, with a focus on sustainability and user-centered solutions.
   

• Explore pathways across global design industries, from product innovation to environmental design.
   

Participants will create and test original prototypes, culminating in a final presentation on Showcase Day.

What Will They Learn?​

The Creative Design Thinking Summer Camp for Kids and Teens introduces participants to the core tenets of design science, guided by research-backed pedagogical approaches and insights from child development psychology. Over two immersive weeks, learners engage in curated studio sessions, case-based discussions, and interdisciplinary projects designed to nurture their creative potential.

Week 1: Building Foundations in Design Thinking​

IDT01 Introduction to the building blocks

The first week focuses on cultivating early fluency in visual thinking, design principles, and creative reasoning. Through guided observation, studio-based tasks, and interactive modules, kids and teens begin to form a foundational understanding of user-sensitive design approaches.

Week 2: From Concept to Creation​

SPC01 Studio Projects & Case Studies

The second week centers around applied creative practice. Students are encouraged to develop independent design responses through simulated case formats and studio-led inquiry. With a focus on design sustainability, material intelligence, and basic prototyping techniques, learners begin shaping their ideas into tangible outcomes.

Throughout the week, mentors facilitate sessions that blend artistic expression with design application, helping learners gain an intuitive understanding of how design functions across industries such as product, toy, environmental, and visual media design plus more design pathways.

Designed for Young Creators

This program supports the cognitive and emotional development of young minds through reflective practice, collaborative studio time, and purpose-led making. Each child learns at their own pace, guided by instructors trained in age-appropriate design literacy and child-centered creative engagement.

Certification:
All participants will receive a certificate of completion. Select participants demonstrating exceptional design capabilities will receive a special commendation certificate.

​

Materials:
A recommended materials list will be shared with parents prior to the camp. Please note that Artshala will not be providing materials.
